“Look, the Coo-Hatch’s been recently upgraded, I have been recently upgraded, and don’t think I spend time in my rom just sleeping, I have my own ways to practice my skills.” Lilyacoo replied, putting aside Shirlu’s objecting with an exasperated movement of her hand. “‘Sides, this should give me some peace and quiet for a bit. You two wanted a battle, right? You wanted less boredom and all? Well there you have it!” a dastardly grin covered Lilyacoo’s face. “Go kiss that storm, maggots! I’ll stay here, waiting to laugh at you when you get wet.”

Shirlu giggled “Welp! C’mon on, Anolk! Time to have some warrior to warrior quality time out there.”

“Wahoo!” Anolk exclaimed. “Lead the way, Shirlu!”

    “Sharp turn on your left!”

Following Shirlu's indication, Anolk swiftly switched the direction of his Air Board and performed a flawless drift, avoiding a building hidden by the violent waves flowing all around the flooded urban center.

    “Wave incoming!” Shirlu warned again.

“Cut it! I can pass!” Anolk's Wind Sword turned into the Beam Gnome, and with a sudden boost of his Air Board, he rushed forward, just as Shirlu used his main Popsicle blade to effectively cut the wave in half, leaving just enough space for Anolk to pass.

“Magic is stronger that physics, pal!” Shirlu screamed, laughing to himself.

Anolk gazed up: they were getting closer and closer to the Blade Tower, and it seemed that the Dalvyon’s attempt to prevent them from approaching were getting more and more vicious. At times, it even seemed as if the creature’s dragon-like head was turned towards them.

“Building debris incoming!” Shirlu warned, flying away from the rain of giant falling fragments of walls, windows and construction parts.

“Fly away, Shirlu, I can deal with that too!” having said that, Anolk turned his Beam Gnome into his Arm Cannons. As he slalomed between the obstacles and water projections, Anolk shot down the unwanted guests that tried to obscure his view, making sure that no debris fell on him or his Air Board. High in the air, Shirlu had pulled out his twin Popsicle swords to deal with his own fragments. Gazing up again, Anolk noticed another movement, which confirmed his suspicion.

“Shirlu!” Anolk shouted. “It spotted us! The Dalvyon’s trying to stop us from getting to the tower!”

Shirlu dived near the water, and flew next to Anolk, following his friend’s pace. He had retrieved a serious expression. “So this one is fully sentient.” he declared, thoughtful. “It’s not just a rampaging monster, it has a goal in mind.” As if to prove him right, the Dalvyon moved its serpentine body and turned its head in their direction, glaring at them with its glowing yellow eyes. It then opened its mouth, and a shiny blue sphere formed itself inside of it, aimed at Anolk and Shirlu.

“Hmm. Laser beam incoming.” Shirlu calmly declared.

“What?!” Anolk exclaimed, much more concerned. “How big?!”

“Not so big that we don’t have the space to dodge it. Don’t worry man, we got this.”Anolk’s expression hardened as a flash of a distant yet painful memory came back to his mind.

“No.” Anolk interrupted. “If we dodge the attack, it might create a big wave and destroy Blade Isle. Or it might hurt more people we don’t have time to save yet. We have to counter it!”

“…Huh. And how d’you suppose we do that, then? Because I don’t think even I’m strong enough to tank a Royal Dalvyon’s beam, let alone deflect it.”

An idea began to emerge in Anolk’s head. “Maybe if you’re alone,” he countered, “but I’m here, and I got an idea! Shirlu, remember when I inflated your Gelatine Screen?”

“Uh, yeah, what about… Oh.” Shirlu’s eyes widened. “Oh darn, you’re a genius! But we need to make it bigger than last time, and… And kinda like your attacking shield thingy. Yeah, this could work, but…” They both took a quick gaze upward: the Dalvyon’s pulsing beam was still stuck in his mouth, but had grown bigger already.

“Serious lack of time.” Shirlu concluded. “Let’s do it!”
“Wahoo! Get the screen ready then!”

Anolk’s Air Board stopped moving, and Shirlu stabilized himself next to his friend. He raised a gloved hand towards the Dalvyon above them and drew a quick symbol in the air before closing his hand into a fist: a red circular shield appeared in front of him. At the same moment, Anolk pointed his Wind Ring at Screen and fired several Wind Bullets. The Gelatine screen turned into a balloon about twice their size.

“…Huh.” Shirlu commented. “And now we have a problem. How do I get my hand out of this thing? I kinda need it to draw a Veloswift Glyph for us after that.”

For several stressful seconds, Anolk’s face remained stuck in an expression of terrified doubt, as he did not seem to have a way to fix such a simple problem. Then, he gasped as his eyes widened.“The Beam Gnome!” Anolk exclaimed. “Shirlu, get a good hold on the shield until I change its shape. Then leave the rest to me.” Joining quick words with equally swift actions, Anolk’s Wind Ring turned into the Beam Gnome, and he made sure that he held the wand-like handle at arm’s length before activating it. Instead of a balloon, the Gelatine Screen around Anolk’s weapon to a much thinner round shape, and Shirlu used the opportunity of the shape-shift to remove his hand, just like Anolk had instructed. Without wasting anymore time, Shirlu took his twin short Popsicle blades and moved away to draw his Veloswift Glyph, right in front of Anolk.
“Ready when you are!” Shirlu exclaimed, gazing back at the Dalvyon. “And you better make it quick, because he's ready too, and I don't think he charged so much energy just for us!”

“One more reason to wait 'til it decides to–”Anolk's sentence was cut short by a sudden roar. The Dalvyon brought its head forward as a bright beam of azure light was unleashed from the creature's mouth, almost blinding Anolk and Shirlu on the spot. Anolk immediately stepped on the back of his Air Board, and a stream of air appeared on the back of it, flinging it forward towards Shirlu's Veloswift Glyph. Shirlu himself followed the motion, his twin blades still in hand.
“Hang on tight!” Shirlu warned. “This is gonna be an intense trip!”

1073 words. Bit busy this week, and moreso the next. Hope we all make it.
