Elle's PlanMo >:D

10 posts in this topic.

  1. I may be a little late to PlanMo, but I believe in myself! (NaNo, here I come!)

EDIT: I originally forgot to say, but TW for mentions of self-harm, suicide, and REALLY severe depression!
  2. Elevator Pitch:
Ed G. Wilson, the narrator and main character, writes a daily poem/journal entry (missing few days) for roughly four months (February 13th to May 22nd). Throughout these poems Wilson describes a day's worth of information, slowly incorporating more of his personal life and past into his work. Wilson, at times, explains his hatred for people, discusses his political beliefs, and even vents in his poems. Wilson's mental health slowly but surely worsens, and he chooses to lock himself in his apartment. Wilson does not leave his house nor answer his door (not even when his landlord comes to collect rent). Wilson, in being isolated, quickly goes mad, his delusions taking over (of which changes the flow of his poems). Wilson eventually, upon reaching rock bottom, writes his last poem, in which he speaks irrationally (much like the last handful of poems he has written), describing what he sees and hears, saying much about how he has to kill himself before death does. The story ends, or so the reader believes, with Wilson's final poem followed by eleven blank pages, and then a suicide note. The note is addressed to whom it may concern. This note is short, only being one sentence—an apology for not being able to pay his future rent.

    - Parent's House (Boston, Massachusetts)
    - Childhood park (Massachusetts)
  4. Setting Descriptions:
New York (General) - A smoky (over-polluted), skyscraper-ridden town. The population is high, and that makes living there all the more exciting. People come to New York to make dreams come true, after all. The streets smell of cigarettes and whisky (although, in the 'better' parts of town, you can [somewhat] smell freshly baked goods and newly inked paper); the odours blend together into a tart smell that stays in your throat for years. Expect to see paper and plastic trash alike littering the streets—no place is safe from the tumbleweeds of the new world.

The State of Ed's Living Space (START OF THE STORY) - Trash is the first notable thing that comes into mind when thinking of the spectacle my apartment is. Soiled clothes—left in piles about the edges of my room—lining the walls; dirtied paper trash soaked in the oils of fast food; leftover dishes of food placed in not-so-meticulous stacks—stacks that range from the size of one’s forearm to singular bowls; liquor bottles (and their remains—the poor piles of broken glass, hoping to catch on your socks as you walk about the room); and a pile (a PILE) of discarded plasters (stained with what can only be described as two weeks' worth of garbage juices and three months' worth of self-destruction) are but some of the many sights my precious room beholds… My dearest "bed"—a ragged old mattress—one with many-a-hole in the sides, rips along the seams, and lost stuffing fragments sprawled about the room; as for I, desperately attempted to force them back into their designated place. Ah, yes… Indeed, I recall now… How, such actions were quite necessary, for they stand a testament to my greatest desire: to spare myself the effort of procuring a replacement and all that comes with it. Although, such reluctance towards my own well-being, disguised under the guise of “saving money", serves me, truly, not a whit—especially not when I am within the haven of my own inks—it only invalidates—pushes the most self-destructive of my behaviours under the rug—the ones most in need of recognition—not that they need recognition, nor validation—that is.

  5. Ed G. Wilson’s Character Sheet:

    Spoiler
    Personality & General Information:

Describing Words (POV of Others)- Closed off, loner, serious, blasé, "good-for-nothing," pessimistic, dud, "waste of space," rotten, witty.
General Mood - Blasé/unaffected (MASK) | Depressed, lonely, angry (at the world).

Positive Traits/Strengths - Intellectual. Can do more than he believes he can (this is completely irrelevant to the story and will be portrayed poorly throughout [he downplays what he is capable of and brushes off the good in his actions]).
Negative Traits/Weaknesses - Crude, irresponsible, lazy. Bad at conveying his thoughts/emotions, bottles everything up, keeps to himself.

Habits/Routines - Smokes cigarettes (addicted [unbeknownst to him]) & drinks alcohol (addicted [known by himself]). Refuses to do chores/clean up after himself. Makes one trip to his mailbox daily (for his regular newspaper [of which the prescription he is subscribed to will run out mid-story]). Leaves trash in piles about his apartment (and dishes in stacks). For several months Ed has not been cooking any food at home (the dishes range from two months to a year old). The wooden flooring of Ed's apartment has started developing mould (you just can't see it from under all the trash). Sleeps in his boxers and a shirt. Used to bandage his legs/arms, but gave up after he stopped being able to afford them (he also recycled them, for a while). Copes with stress via self-harm. Has a skin picking habit that scarred the skin around his lips. Bites his nails, leading to them being extremely short. Cannot leave the keloid scars on his arms alone.

Fears - Failure (overcame), public speaking, being perceived, people finding out the conditions he's living in/people seeing the state he's in (the reason why Ed only visits his mailbox at night).

Likes - Food (that he cannot afford), cigarettes, whiskey, the smell of concrete.
Dislikes - People, teenagers/kids, parents, social interactions, specific textures (I like to think that he's an undiagnosed autistic man).

    Age - 23
    Birthday - September 2nd, 1961
    Gender - Male
Orientation - AroAce (dated a woman for two months in college but broke up with her after she tried to kiss him)
Occupation & Education - Has a high school diploma (graduated with honors) & a Bachelor of Arts (couldn't afford anymore years in college) | During college he worked in a print shop writing newspapers. Post-college he was getting money from his sister-in-law (she stopped providing money to him after a year and a half [he still has money left over from what she gave him & his job in college]).
Goals/Dreams: Has no aspirations—he wants to live, eat, & sleep peacefully for the rest of his life (although, due to the lack of money he has, that's not possible).

    Appearance:

    Height - 70 in (average)
    Weight - 110 lbs (underweight | 16.7 BMI)
    Body Shape - Rectangle
    Measurements (Hips, Waist, Bust, & Undercup if ♀) - 38 in | 31 in | 32 in

Lip Shape - Thin with light cupids bow
Eye Shape - Almond, down turned, wide set
    Eye Colour - Hazel
    Nose Shape - Roman
    Face Shape - Triangular

Hair Length, Style, & Descriptions - Short, shaggy, oily, not kempt, little to no volume
Hair Texture - Straight, coarse (1c)
Hair Colour - Light brown to dirty blonde

Race & Skin Tone - White, slavic, pale white with olive undertones (sickly white due to not leaving his apartment).
Birthmarks/Scars/Other - Medium sized mole on right calf (inner side). A decent amount of self-harm scars covering his arms, legs, and lower stomach (on the surface of his forearms and legs his scars are the worst; overlapping in heavy patches of scar tissue [elsewhere the scars are sparse]).
General Description - He would be considered conventionally attractive if not for his poor self-care. You can visibly see how underweight he is (sunken cheeks, showing pelvis, thin fingers & limbs, etc.).

Smell - Like ink, mould/mildew/must, oily hair, iron/blood, and spoiled milk/rotten cheese.
Hygiene Level (1-5) - 1—he never showers, rarely washes his wounds out (God knows how he's infection free), and refuses to clean up after himself.

    Outfit:

Top(s) - Stained dark blue cotton T-shirt (in public he wears a black turtleneck beneath his shirt).
Bottom(s) - A pair of boxers (when he leaves the house he puts on a simple pair of black slacks).
    Accessories - None
Bag(s) & Contents - A simple leather satchel that holds his inks (two bottles of black ink), a fountain pen, two ball point pens, and three newspapers (two dated 1983 and one dated 1982). This bag lies directly next to his typewriter (of which he uses to type the poems found inside of the book I'm writing).

    Background:

Grew up... - In Roxbury, Massachusetts. There, he learned quite a bit about black culture and what it meant to be black (how one's race can affect other people's point of views). Living in Roxbury greatly helped in the development of Ed's beliefs surrounding equality—people, no matter their race or gender, are human. This belief helped shape Ed's later beliefs surrounding humanity as a whole (having viewed racism from the point of view as a bystander, he learned that humans were cruel).
Family Members - Mary Anne Cobric (biological mother), Montgomery Cobric (step sister [pre-bio parent's marriage, with a different man]), & Robert Wilson (biological father). (ONLY RAISED BY MARY ANNE.)

    Religion (Past) - Catholic
    Family's Beliefs - Republican

    Beliefs/TRUE Being:

    Politics - Democratic/Left-leaning
    Religion (Current) - Atheist (Ex-Christian)
Morals - Women, POC, & people in general deserve to have the same rights. Hates people equally (believes that the world would be better if everyone were to simply die). Does not believe in corporal punishment (due to how his mother treated him). Does not believe in the death penalty. Believes that wrongdoers are still humans, and should be punished through the means of their own guilt, not death nor torture. Could care less about one's emotions so long as there are facts (prefers evidence over emotion).

    Alignment - True Neutral
    Personality Type - INTJ-T
    Social Energy (Personality) - Introvert
    Working (Group Sizes) - Solo/Pairs
View on The World - Pessimistic

    Relationships:

Ed G. Wilson | THIS CHARACTER - Believes that he (himself) is worthless and undeserving of love. He sees himself as a spineless, inhuman, freak who cannot do anything for the life of him. He believes he is the only "human” deserving of pain. He believes that his death is the only thing that will resolve the issues between him and his family (since they all seem to hate him so much). (KEY WORD, SEEM! MAKE SURE TO MAKE THE READER QUESTION WHETHER HIS FAMILY [Montgomery, specifically] TRULY HATED HIM!!!)

Montgomery Cobric | Maternal Half Sister - Montgomery (nicknamed Mongo) is Ed's only supporter (both in his eyes and generally). She provided money for Ed when he started living alone. Montgomery helped Ed move into his current apartment. Despite the two not sharing any memories in early childhood (meeting when Ed was only 20 [by coincidence, on the streets]). Montgomery was providing money to Ed for ~a year and a half but stopped after she realized Ed was spending the money on alcohol and cigarettes (she did not contact him after that). The story takes place just a few days after this event took place.

Mary Anne Cole | Abusive Mother - Just a few months after the birth of Ed, Robert divorced Mary, leaving Ed to be raised by his mother, alone. Mary was extremely cruel to her son, beating him often and berating him for his beliefs. Mary forced her religion on Ed, pressuring him to become more holy, convincing him that he had spirits inside of him that were making him believe in "evil" (black lives matter, LGBTQIA+ rights, and equal rights for POC).

Robert Wilson | Absent BIO Father - Ed has no memories of his bio father. Ed believes that his father was a wise man for leaving his mother (his father, despite not being present for him, was one of the only important figures in his life [the reason he left his abusive mother]).

Half Sister's Father | Donald Wade Colbric - Ed, too, sees Donald as a figure to look up to (although less than his father). Ed has never met Donald.

Step Mother (Married to Ed's Father) | Gertrude Wilson - Ed has never met Gertrude but knows of her existence. He feels that she is a lucky woman for getting to marry Robert.

Ex-Friends/Bullies/Kids at School - Kids at school often bullied Ed for how he dressed (his clothes were ragged and stained). Ed often got his lunch trashed and items stolen. Ed remembers none of their names due to how insignificant they were, in his eyes, at least.

Librarian ("Replacement Mother") | Mrs. Josephine - Ed knew a woman by the name of Mrs. Josephine throughout the whole of his childhood. Mrs. Josephine cared for Ed, giving him food, water, and anything that he could ever need. Ed often refused what she gave him (unless he REALLY needed it). Ed always thanked Mrs. Josephine for all she did. Eventually, Mrs. Josephine stopped showing up to work. It seemed that Mrs. Josephine had died at the ripe old age of 98. She had passed peacefully in her sleep. Mary refused to let Ed go to Mrs. Josephine's funeral (Ed was 16 when Mrs. Josephine died). Mrs. Josephine's death has greatly affected Ed.

  6. Hey quick question! Where you getting these planning sheets? I'm curious
  7. I'm taking reference from a handful of D&D character sheets I found online (as well as adding other things I thought would be important in developing a character)! :D
  8. TO DO:
    - Side Character Sheets…
    > Montgomery Cobric,
    > Mary Anne Cole,
→ Create more side characters: aunt, grandmother, grandfather, great grandmother (NO CHARACTER SHEET NEEDED FOR THESE CHARACTERS).
    > Robert Wilson,
    > Donald Wade Colbric,
    > Ex-Friends/Bullies/Kids at School,
→ Curate a handful of specific events.
    > Mrs. Josephine.

    - Make a timeline...
    > Decide the main events for each month (Feb., Mar., Apr., May),
    > Make main events for each week,
    > Events for each day,
