Historical Archives and Events

The Founding Records
The Founding Records are kept in a narrow room on the second floor of the historical archives. The oldest documents are stored in protective glass cases because the parchment has become too brittle to handle. The documents are catalogued by year, author, and subject, although the oldest records have been reorganized so many times that some original labels no longer match. Most of all, some are still missing from the Burning of Redrun. In these documents, you can find the original charter establishing Graystone University, the first architectural plans for the university (including the underground chambers), correspondence between the founders and past kings and queens, how the land looked before the university was built, records of the first students and faculty, and the original agreements granting Graystone control over The Source.

Graystone teaches students that its founders discovered a dead god beneath their own land. The earliest records, however, don't tell that exact version of the story. Pages were missing, and the biography of the God couldn't be validated until recent years. One particularly strange inconsistency was noted with the date of discovery. The university's records place the event in early spring, but an older ledger notes the transportation of special equipment several months earlier. In reality, there is no way to confirm any of these theories, but they've been passed down with every generation of Graystone graduates.

The First Anatomical Examinations
This collection is one of the most important records of Divine Biology. It has the original observations that contributed to the university's knowledge of divine anatomy, regeneration, and the relationship between magical energy and living tissue. These documents are kept in a climate controlled chamber across from the university's medical library. The oldest volumes are written in an early form of Aevian language (Aevorian), and many include translations added later by more gifted transcriptionists. Early researchers didn't have reliable framework for understanding what they'd found.

Initially, they compared The Source's organs to human anatomy, but it wasn't accurate. His body could repair damage that would be fatal to a mortal, and his blood continued to carry magical energy even when the rest of his body was dead or unresponsive. The researchers eventually developed the Continuity Cycle, the theory that divine blood, tissue, and magical energy connect to one another. The Continuity Cycle eventually became the foundation of Divine Biology within Graystone.

With new discoveries came challengers, though. One examiner in one of his theses described the Source as unresponsive rather than deceased, which led to an uproar in conspiracies. The examiner's reports then abruptly stopped, and no record of his resignation or death appears in the journal. It was one of Aevor's biggest mysteries.

Testimonies of the First Scholars
The collection was created when Graystone was founded to settle disagreements about the discovery of The Source. Its includes personal statements, signed declarations, private letters, and interviews conducted by the first university council of the first students that got accepted into Graystone. These accounts were written by individuals rather than groups of people, and are known to be vulnerable and unlike any other historical accounts within Graystone's archives.

The witnesses could never agree on what really happened when they encountered The Source. Some said that the body was already beneath the earth when they arrived, while others claimed they'd assisted with or witnessed a chamber being built for it before The Source even came into the picture.
