STEP ONE: Miss Joan’s daisies return to their home studio where they trained as young girls for the 75th anniversary, and are forced to reconcile - not just with each other, but with the art that brought them together in the first place.
STEP TWO (IP): Gathering for the first time in ten years, Miss Joan’s Daisies return home to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the ballet company where they grew up. Each of the four Daisies has spent the last decade moving through the world with her own perception of The Studio; even across the country, the impact of Miss Joan and her teachings is still felt by each woman. There is Margot, the stoic late bloomer who has spent the last ten years trying to outlast the injury she received her senior year of high school; Eloise, the firecracker who found her true love in musical theatre; Bailey, the breakout star modern choreographer obtaining her MFA; and lastly, Miss Joan’s darling, Hannah, who returns to the only place she’s ever called home.
During the girls’ senior year, the company performed Swan Lake, causing severe tensions as the coveted roles were divided out between the four daises and their other classmates and company members. Surprising no-one, Hannah is cast as Odile/Odette, but 8 weeks before the ballet is set to premier, Hannah’s parents withdraw her from the company and send her to an eating disorder recovery center. Her understudy, Margot, is suddenly thrust into the starring role. Up until their senior year, Margot was the late bloomer of the group, but after attending a prestigious summer intensive, she returns to the company with new vigor. Even still, the pressure is a lot on her shoulders as she undertakes one of the most difficult roles in classical ballet.
On closing night, Margot experiences a stress fracture in her lower back falling out of a lift with her partner. While this injury doesn’t end Margot’s career, she finds herself on the sidelines as she recovers and takes a full year off of ballet before returning with vengeance. During her rehab, Miss Joan works with her closely to help get her back on stage, and eventually offers Margot a job with the professional side of the company and as a teacher. Margot stays in the town the daisies grew up in, watching her sisters in satin from behind her home screen each night after work.
Hannah’s parents made her decision for her. She was not dancing anymore.
