I just had a question that seems kind of ironic.
Why is there stuff on this site that is labeled 18+ on a site that is meant for 10-18 year olds? It just seemed a little strange to me... :smt017

Heh, it can be a bit odd. But, there are a lot of 14-year-olds out there who write stuff that really needs an 18+ rating.

Plus, the 18+ rating is kind of a misnomer -- it's a warning more than anything else. On YWS, any work with strong language requires an 18+ rating. This article goes more into the content rating system:

Yeah. I've noticed stuff in there that's rated for 18+ and there isn't anything in it save for a few cuss words that even little kids know.

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
