The Criterion Collection does the occasional article which features the top 10 (or more) movies of a certain notable person (well, movies that are featured within the Criterion Collection, at least).
Such people include: Wes Anderson (Director of the Grand Budapest Hotel, Moonrise Kingdom, and the Royal Tenenbaums)
Edgar Wright (Director of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World)
Christopher Nolan (Director of the Dark Knight series, Interstellar, and Inception)
Martin Scorcese (Director of the Wolf of Wallstreet, the Departed, and Goodfellas)
James Franco (Most famous for the James Franco roast)
Sonic Youth (Major innovator in the alternative rock scene)
and Richard Ayoade (Moss from the IT Crowd. Also directed Submarine and the Double).
Where else can you learn about a film maker's influences (other than anything you find off a quick google search)?
