not a single thing i have done in the past 2 weeks has gone anywhere close to right. i guess that's proof i'll never change no matter how hard i try and no matter how close i get to seemingly being better i'll always end up back in this headspace back in this godforsaken world back to realizing how alone i am.

<333 remember this is around the time that seasonal depression starts edging in, don't talk yourself down over temporary issues

    winterwolf0100 replied · Yesterday

If you believe that other people can change, then you have to believe you can, too. Plus, you already HAVE changed and grown!! Think back to where you were two years ago, or three. All you've learned and done since then. You're gonna feel the same way a few years from now, and you'll feel sad you were so mean to yourself at this age <33 you've got this.

    Why?

    BunBunZu replied · Oct 22

    Okay, this made me giggle.

    Spoiler
But, when I talk about why I don't like being an only child to my friends (that have siblings), they always that I'm so lucky that I don't have siblings, that they wish they were. And then it just hits me that they could never understand what it's like growing up in an environment where you also had to be an adult, not a child, an environment where you had to engage in conversations about adult topics and adult activities, an environment where sometimes when I had to be the adult when my parents were too drunk to do anything. They'll never understand what it's like to play alone your whole life since not even your parents can make the time to play with you, make multi player gamed single player, keep yourself entertained with your own company. They'll never understand how protective your parents will be when you're their only child to the point you couldn't even go to the park with a friend, even if they go too, how it'll sink in that when your parents die, that you'll be completely alone.

    SHUNKA replied · Oct 22

Hey man I’m sorry you’re going through that, I don’t know the feeling completely (since I have 6 younger siblings), but I do know people definitely take it for granted the fact that they have siblings. If you ever need to talk about anything my DMs are open my dude

    BunBunZu replied · Oct 23

Thank you, and I agree with the fact that some people do take their siblings for granted, I've known some people who did/do.

    Stardust7827 replied · Oct 23

I don’t mean to invalidate you nor am I trying to one-up you, but something similar always happens to me where people go, “it must be so nice being the oldest child” and I really relate to what you’re saying—if only they knew…

    BunBunZu replied · Oct 23

It's just always going to be something that they're never really going to be able to understand no matter how hard we try explaining it..

    SHUNKA replied · Oct 24

Oh yeah i definitely relate to this alot and get what you mean

why cant what i create be liked? why cant it be loved? why cant it stand out enough? why cant it be significant enough to be noticed and liked? why does it have to be forgettable like i am? why does it just have to be "fine" like i am? im just provened its not ever good enough, not as good as i thought not as good as i wished it could fucking be just like me. i get it i get it i fet it

    winterwolf0100 replied · Oct 10

We grow, just like our writing does. For what it’s worth though, I don’t think you’re just “fine” and I don’t think you’re not good enough. So if you’re writing is just like you, I think it’s pretty amazing <33

    lalalucky replied · Oct 11

none of my poems aren't really anything people ever take note of. its never anyone's favorite. it doesn't even stand out enough to be something cared about. thanks though.

    winterwolf0100 replied · Oct 11

Sometimes, we don't know that our poetry is someone's favorite because they just never share it. Sometimes it hasn't reached the right person yet. That doesn't mean there isn't value in it or you though!

    lalalucky replied · Oct 11

    yeah thats true, thanks again

    AlexWrites replied · Oct 27

Don't ask me how I ended up here, but God I know why~
@lalalucky your poem God's favorite was one of best descriptions I had read! Literally shaped my earlier writing here. So just know that there is someone who loves what you put out for us to read <3

Have been going to therapy for the first time, and my therapist is in agreement that I have inattentive ADHD. Yay for validation! I'd really like to get an official diagnosis, but apparently my healthcare provider doesn't offer ADHD assessments anymore?? Are we going backwards in time? :/ I'd like to share all these new things I've learned about myself with certain loved ones like my parents, but I'm worried they won't take me seriously if I'm only self-diagnosed.

Anyway, on the bright side, I'm definitely giving myself more grace in certain areas in my life. I didn't realize how much shame I was carrying - I had this ingrained belief that I was lazy and unambitious and just needed to try harder, and it's a relief to know that there's more going on. I'm starting a new chapter where I'm learning to work with my brain and its limitations instead of holding myself to neurotypical standards. Do I wish I had started this chapter earlier, like before all those years of nightly hw procrastination and little sleep? YES >.< but it could be worse! I could've lived my whole life without even knowing inattentive ADHD was a thing!

If you want to learn more about the two different kinds of ADHD, check out this article for a list of the 18 symptoms they use to diagnose folks.

    winterwolf0100 replied · Sep 25

I have gone through the same exact thing and completely understand. In terms of sharing with family, tell them your therapist said she thinks you have ADHD. You don’t need to even tell them you’re the one who first mentioned it. Most people aren’t familiar enough with healthcare or therapy to know that doesn’t count as an official diagnosis—regardless, it gives a little more “officialness” to it, even if that shouldn’t be necessary (because self-diagnosis should be valid in a world where it is increasingly hard and EXPENSIVE to get a professional diagnosis!)

So happy for you that you have some answers <333 I know how it feels, and I’m glad you’ve got some relief.

Agh thank you winter <33 that's all very reassuring to hear, and thank you for the advice!

my relationship with food has been pretty bad lately. i feel like its been weird for a a long long time, but its just gotten worse as time goes on. everytime i eat something, i end up just regretting it rlly badly and my stomach hurts. i dont enjoy it like i used to and i cant seem to eat anything without looking at how many calories is in it (and obsessing over it) and i feel like i'm not deserving of food unless i "earn" it. its an on and off thing bc some days i will eat whatever and feel extreme regret later and even cry and feel disgusting. then other days i avoid food as much as i can. i cannot avoid meals entirely despite wanting to bc my parents are around when i eat breakfast and dinner and i just know they would be mad if they found out. and ik all of this is probably bad for me, but I cant help it.

    TheQueen replied · Sep 23

I'm so sorry that happened to you. Maybe you can try to explain to your parents; they might understand then. They can also help you. I wish I could do more...

    EveryUsernameTaken replied · Sep 23

You should reach out to a trusted adult if it's that's stressing you so bad 🙁

    Spoiler
I won't lie if I was in your shoes even with a trusted adult I would be embarrassed so it would truly take alot of courage ... always easier said than done but courage, faith and trust

I'm rather ashamed of saying what I hate about my appearance because it's so cliche for women to do but I would love input on this to help me boost my ego and self-confidence.

    Spoiler
I love my teeth, I love the shape of my eyes and slight wave of my hair... I hate the shape of my face it's too round! It's too round... it's not elegant.. it's not long enough... I wish my hair colour was a light brown, you see the colour brown goes with everything compared to blonde. I wish my eyes weren't blue, I wish they were also a light brown. I wish I didn't look so stereotypically 'white' when it comes to those things. I wish I was just only a little bit slimer, but alas.. I can't control my appetite. They tell I don't eat that much, really? Candies, cookies, sandwiches and bread with nutella! And it's not much? In my eyes it's a week's worth that I've eaten.. a month's worth! Maybe I'm simply delusional?

Spanish class is so awful and I need to vent
    Spoiler
I've been taking Spanish since I was in first grade and loved it, but ever since I reached high school and started doing university/college Spanish concurrent enrollment classes, everything is terrible.
The class is set up in a way that doesn't make sense to me, we don't do anything fun anymore, the teacher doesn't listen to me, and I'm constantly forced to talk to people I don't know in a foreign language. All my years of elementary school and junior high Spanish were with the same kids and I never realized just how terrifying it is for me to speak to people I don't know in Spanish. It's really bad for my anxiety. I cry in almost every single class period for one reason or another and I just wish it would stop.
I'm sick of being the crybaby in school, I'm sick of not being able to handle the smallest changes, I'm sick of shutting down when I have to talk to/work in groups with people I'm not familiar with. I'm so, so sick of it.
It's not even that I can't speak Spanish — I've been learning it since first grade and even if my conjugation isn't perfect all the time, I still got a 5 on my AP Spanish Lang test freshman year! I can speak Spanish. I just... feel like I can't. I get into my own head about it and feel like if I can't remember all the words and conjugate perfectly every time I open my mouth, I shouldn't speak at all. So then I lose participation points. And then I lose points when we have to talk in groups. And then I cry and have anxiety attacks and don't have enough time to finish my assignments. I was only able to make it through last year because I had some friends in the class who sat across from me and who I could talk to and group up with, but they quit after the school year ended because they also hated it, so now I'm alone.
I can't quit because I want to get college credit, I want to get my school's honors diploma that you need certain language requirements for, and I want to keep being able to speak Spanish. I've worked for this since first grade, and I don't want to let my anxiety get in the way of it. But I find no joy in it anymore. I get so nervous when I speak Spanish now that I feel like my language skills have worsened since I started high school. I don't think I can take another year of this.
And now my teacher is disregarding my 504 plan that gives me extra time to do assignments due to my anxiety, so I had to make an appointment with my school counselor to discuss what to do about Spanish class. And even the thought of talking to my counselor about it makes me feel anxious because I know she thinks college is the most important thing ever and she'll probably tell me to just suck it up and stay in it because it'll be worth it in the end for the credits. But it's causing me so much emotional distress that I don't know if it's even worth it anymore.
I just... I don't know what to do. I could try joining the beginning Spanish classes my high school has in order to maintain some of my language skills, but I've already completed those levels and I'd still have to talk with people I'm not familiar with. I don't know what to do. Hopefully talking with my counselor will actually help? Ugh.

    CountFig replied · Sep 23

she isnt legally allowed to disregard the 504 as far as im aware

    spottedpebble replied · Sep 23

yeah another reason why i have to talk to my counselor *sigh*
