I kiss him more passionately and sit him up a little.

Jace

Kissing her back the same, I let her do what she wants and follow her.

Rayah

I pull back again and rest my forehead against his, taking a breath for a moment before leaning back in.

Jace

I let her lean back in before pulling back on my own, resting my forehead against hers, "W-what are you doing, Ray?"

Rayah

I swallow, "I-I don't want you to think about them."

Jace

I hesitate, "Why?"

Rayah

I keep a hand on the side of his face and brush my thumb against his cheek, "'Cause it's your birthday and I don't want you to be worried."

Jace

I flash a smile, "I'm always going to be worried, Rayah. That's what husbands and fathers do."

Rayah

I shake my head, "Not today, though, please. You've gone through enough."

Jace

I flash a smile and study her, "Ray, I can't just stop worrying. It doesn't work like that."

Rayah

I pout and look down.

Jace

I study her before tilting her face up to mine and resting her forehead against mine again, "But you can try."

Rayah

I smile and nod, kissing him again.

Jace

I kiss her back and close my eyes again.

Rayah

I lean him down and keep a hand on the side of his face.
