*Microphone screech*

Whoops.

*AJ taps the mic*

You can hear me?

Alright let’s get into this.

AI, AI, AI. It’s all you see in the news these days. “Rogue AI”, “Student Uses AI To Undress Peers”, “AI Is Destroying Humanity”

Many of you would say, AJ, I think the last one is being a little dramatic.

But is it?

Creativity is something we all possess. If you’re reading this you’re almost certainly a writer or an artist. You’re on YWS, so I’d assume so.

Raise your hand if you’ve ever seen an AI generated image. We’ve all seen them. Now, what if that person had gotten a real human to draw their character? (Shoutout to LadyMysterio!) A real human to make that funny social media post?

We’re losing our creativity to AI. Many of us don’t even think for ourselves anymore. You don’t know what to wear today? Snap a few photos of your clothes and plug them into AI. It’ll tell you what to wear! Simple as that.

But what happens if you can’t access AI?

You don’t know what to wear. You can’t figure it out. You become addicted to this bot. It strips your ability to think for yourself and you feel lost without it.

People who write reviews with AI. Look, we’ve seen them. We know when you do. It’s really obvious. But once you can’t do that anymore, your ability to review vanishes. You can’t do it yourself because it’s so hard.

AI is destroying creativity and humanity along with it. Creativity is something that humanity is known for. Our beautiful murals, our books, our ideas.

Humans are getting dumber because of this too.

The Flynn Effect is where human IQ scores increase by about 3 points every decade. But now there seems to be a flattening or reversal of this effect.

Coincidence? I think not.

Also, if this doesn’t convince you. It’s literally destroying the planet. It’s sapping our water resources, which are already dwindling due to global warming.

If that’s not enough I don’t know what is.

Now, I’m not saying that I’ve never used AI. I have before, back before the impact of it was widely known. I rarely use it now, but when I do it’s to prove a point.

Let me show you now. Let’s plug one of my drawings into Canva AI and have it improve upon the drawing.

*AJ pulls up slides*

Prompt: Improve upon this drawing.

AI oversexualizes women in their images. Look how it slimmed her legs and waist. Her breasts are bigger too. Also, just look at what it did to her hair. I don’t even know why it thought that was a good idea. Now, I’ll admit her face looks a bit better, but to be fair. Her face was tiny when I was drawing it. Those little things that I messed up on are what make it human.

Honestly, which one would you rather you saw?

Back to oversexualization. It’s not just the women, it’s also the men. But, it impacts people’s mental health when all they see are these perfect people. No one’s perfect. No one looks like that. It’s very unrealistic and unhealthy to try to look like that.

All in all, just don’t use AI. Get a human to do that drawing for you or ask for help with your reviewing.

I’m happy to help you and I know many people on here would be too.

AJ out! *drops mic*

Here's the statistics for water usage!
Text Generation: ~3 mL per prompt.
Image Generation: 15 to 60 mL per image.
Video Generation: 0.5 to 4 liters depending on clip length and hardware.

I'd like to add that AI can't create a good "feeling" in art - your images are a great example. The way you drew the women (original) really gives out a calm and concentrated feeling, you really captured the grace of her dancing. For the second one (AI)... um, what did it do to her eyes?? It looks like she is a zombie person with empty whites intead of the actual eyes you drew in the original. It completely rid her of all emotion, and this isn't just for what it did here; I've seen many AI images and they're all... well, they have the facial expression: happiness, anger, sadness. But it has no subtlety, no flaws, just as if the people in the "drawings" were little AIs too.
I agree with everything else you said. Thank you for this!!
Also I would like to add this too:

Spoiler
A few months ago, I was walking around potatoschool with my friend, when I saw that "they"'d made a little exposition on a billboard about scientists and other intelligent people who had changed the world. Something struck me about it: every image (there was a picture of each person on the expo) was in the exact same brushstroke style, and every brushstroke was absolutely perfect and all the same! Then I saw the telltale random floating object, the occasional absurdity: like how some random wave from the sea came flowing in through an open window... it was AI! I was outraged that my school, a rather anti-AI-art place, would use AI for this mini expo instead of the thousands of talented students there were, all of whom went to art class because it is in the curriculum! So I told my friend that it was horrible that there was "AI art" on the billboard instead of actual. But then my teacher came up behind me and said: "What AI art? AI doesn't make 'art'"
Just wanted to share that =)

Love the tone of this piece, it was filled with human voice and felt a friend sitting down to chat with another friend. Your points about sexualization of women are ones I had never really considered! I have noticed that AI does definitely tend towards white-washing and thinning individuals, but yeah, I hate those effects that you brought up too!

(Small edit note: "It's" in title should be "Its")

This was a fabulous essay bringing to light some of the important points that authors, artists, and humans need to take into account before they use AI! I also appreciated that you shared your experience with honesty, most folks have tried AI a couple times... but once you noticed the impacts and knew more about it, it changed your mind about using it! That point brough a level of vulnerability and honesty to the essay which put the speaker in a position of again just a friend or peer talking to another friend without the tone being shaming or superior.

You're a good writer, and I'm glad you are letting your voice shine, and using it with power to bring these important points to light! Keep it up!

Appreciate YOU!

Nice points mentioned about AI usage - over sexualization etc. are mentioned neatly.
Human touch is always the best.

Let me tell you my perspective, my friend. We have only just started using AI. back in the the days where were these. let me ask you where were these?

Nobody can answer these questions, right? But now we can and we can use its usage increasing day by day.

Keep enjoying and keep rocking AI. The world is beautiful with artificial intelligence.

Cheers Friend. Ha Ha !!
