People think it's so easy to change
But in truth it's like getting sober
The screams don't let go
The choices keep grabbing on
The cries hold on and don't go
The ghosts keep lingering on
Ghosts haunts me when I sleep at night
Sometimes I see the blood on my hands
Reminding me of the one thing I used to fear
Becoming just like my father
Someone can't get sober if they don't want it
But being redeemed is like getting sober

Even if I don't understand the idea of getting sober I completely understand what you mean. To me this poem is about how it feels like moving through molasses while trying to change your personality. It's hard and it's something that every time you want to change you keep coming back to who you were / are.
This is my favorite line from the entire poem, something that makes it stand out to me is the imagery. I can picture the ghosts and the blood. I can heavily relate to this poem, especially about not wanting to be like my dad.
Overall great poem, hope you keep writing :>

..we don't really know if reviewing this will go well since we don't know anything about getting sober, but we'll try.
we don't understand the 'sober' part since we don't know anything about getting sober, but we assume you mean that since changing is like getting sober it's hard since one probably has a reason to drown themselves in alcohol, and since you said one needs to want to be sober to get sober it's hard since one has a reason to want to remain drunk, remain clouded, to not want to see things for what they are. sorry, we probably don't make sense.
we can see this part, a thousand grabbing things that don't let go..
'ghosts haunts me'. we aren't sure but shouldn't that be ghosts haunt me?
do the ghosts not haunt when you sleep during the day? and you say you used to fear becoming just like your father, does that mean you don't fear it now?
we can't really say anything about this part, sorry.
aaahhh..
finishing this here for now. we might come back later, though.
Thanks for the review. I don't know anything about getting sober either. But this is about how hard it can be to redeem yourself
