Prologue
Normal. Such a vague word. What’s normal to those in one part of the world can be super fucking weird in another. It can even be applied to different groups in the same city. Take New York for example. Some will spend $9.25 on a large specialty coffee every morning on the way to work, while others will go for the basic drip coffee at $2.50(aka, rational people). My life is no different.
I seem relatively normal to everybody. I complain about the weather at work, talk about my exes at the coffee shop, gush about how kids and animals are truly a blessing to have while taking a walk though the park. No one ever has any reason to think I’m different.
The idea of conformity is the tendency to change your beliefs or behaviors to be the same as a group. An extreme version of this is called code-switching. This is “adjusting your identity to blend in and conform to a larger group” as defined by a totally academic source(ha, I do my research). Though code switching can be used daily, like switching to work you at work(duh) and social you out and about even varying from place to place. To most, it is to be accepted and liked. For me, it’s to hide. I don’t want anyone to think I’m different for legal reasons.
A) I am currently classed as a villain and on the run. Rightfully so. I was first deemed evil(as I like to think I am), in Greece around the year 1500. I will say, their version of evil is very misconstrued. All I did was kill one official so the other one had to man up and rule the land(which he did horribly, got like 50,000 people killed through bad decisions never relating to war). Like, I could have committed mass genocide to earn that title, but all I had to do was kill one insignificant mortal? But hey, it stuck and now I am permanently on the run because I’ve done much, much more since. The only regret I have in regards to my villaindom is the fact I earned it though one measly kill. I knew I should have started bigger.
And B) I am thousands of years old. Yes, you read right. Thousands of years old. Apparently my family was “blessed” with immortality eons ago by the gods. No one knew because it was passed down and only affected one person at a time. So my ancestor was blessed, had a kid, passed the blessing to the kid, the kid grew up, had a kid, passed the blessing to their kid, so on and so forth until my mother had me, and I chose villainy over the nuclear family. I have been conforming since I was a toddler. I moved from city to city with my mother until eventually she died. We had never stayed more than 2 weeks in one place, so I guess the stress of moving a child around in circles finally caught up to her.
Anyway, I am currency hiding in the bustling city of Boston, Massachusetts. It’s not as dense or under the radar as I would like, but it’s pretty. No one knows I’m here. Yet. I have plans to collapse a very busy building soon, though unlike normal, I plan to stay in Boston after.
Maybe grow some roots, recruit some people, and form a villain empire(NOT a family).
