In My Short Stories

PreviousNext

You are an Idiotic, lustful, cowardly degenerate who lives and breathes to receive a sliver of praise from your equally imbecilic flock of fools. A man so desperately deprived of substance that he must adorn himself with the admiration of others to convince himself he possesses any worth at all. Your existence is an unfortunate testament to the extraordinary lengths a man will go to disguise the emptiness within himself.

Your crooked grin sends a painful shiver down my spine, for I am reminded that such a beast of a man once held something so precious, so delicate, and so undeserving of his possession. You stole a piece of my pure, divine soul and swallowed it whole, leaving behind nothing but the bitter remnant of a love I once considered sacred.

How peculiar it is that the very face I once found comfort in now inspires such profound repulsion. Your voice, once soft and soothing as it whispered my name, has become an unbearable disturbance to my ears. I find myself questioning how something once so familiar could become so grotesquely foreign. Perhaps it was never your voice that comforted me, but rather the delusion I had so foolishly constructed around it.

Neither the beauty of Aphrodite nor the courage of Ares could redeem a character so profoundly corrupted. No divine intervention, no earthly possession and no admiration from your pathetic entourage could conceal the moral bankruptcy that festers beneath your carefully constructed exterior. You adorn yourself with shiny materials and intoxicating oud, attempting to disguise a character so impoverished that even the finest luxuries cannot compensate for its deficiencies. Yet no fragrance, however expensive, can mask the sinful stench of a rotten soul.

Your lies reverberate through the corridors of my mind, each one another reminder of the person I foolishly allowed myself to love. I once mistook your words for promises, your affection for devotion and your attention for something resembling genuine love. How humiliating it is to recognise that I had placed such extraordinary faith in someone so undeserving of it.

Your eyes bleed with greed, your breath expels undeserving pride, your feet remain shackled by sloth, your fists are clenched with wrath, your ears echo envy, your stomach overflows with gluttony and your entire soul ruptures with lust. You are not merely acquainted with the seven deadly sins; you appear to have made a home within each of them. A walking embodiment of moral decay, so consumed by your own appetites that you have seemingly forgotten the existence of anything beyond yourself.

And yet, perhaps the greatest tragedy is not the man you have become, but the man I once believed you to be.

I am your treasure, your trophy, the only good you have ever accomplished in the entirety of the seventeen years you have unfortunately roamed this earth. I offered you a tenderness you had seemingly never encountered, a devotion you were too ignorant to appreciate and an affection you were too selfish to reciprocate. I filled your empty heart with love and affection, satisfied your never-ending needs with pleasure, and yet your insatiable appetite for gratification remained. My love was never enough, not because it was insufficient, but because you were incapable of recognising its value.

I wonder whether you will ever understand the magnitude of what you discarded. Whether, in the midst of your endless pursuit of validation, you will ever pause long enough to recognise that something genuine once stood before you. Perhaps you will remember me in fragments: a familiar expression, an old conversation, the sound of a name you once whispered with affection. Perhaps you will remember the warmth I offered you when the world seemed cold, or the patience I exercised when you gave me every reason to withdraw it.

But I will not spend my existence waiting for your revelation.

You are no longer an idol deserving of admiration, nor a wound deserving of constant attention. You are simply a lesson in the consequences of placing something sacred into unworthy hands.

And I, who once considered you my greatest affection, now consider you my greatest disillusionment.

May you spend the remainder of your days searching for the very devotion you so carelessly discarded, only to discover that admiration is plentiful, affection is obtainable, but a love as genuine as the one you were given is considerably harder to find.

For all your vanity, all your possessions, all your carefully rehearsed charm and all the admiration you so desperately seek, there remains one thing you will never possess again:

The version of me that loved you.

This is a powerful, emotionally charged piece of writing. It reads like a bitter farewell letter addressed to someone who betrayed the speaker's trust.
My favourite line was: And yet, perhaps the greatest tragedy is not the man you have become, but the man I once believed you to be.And yet, perhaps the greatest tragedy is not the man you have become, but the man I once believed you to be.
I really liked it this is so good .
And that’s it have a nice day

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my work! I’m particularly glad that line resonated with you, as I think it captures the central sentiment of the piece rather poignantly. There’s something rather tragic about grieving not necessarily the person themselves, but the idealised version of them that once existed in your mind.

I genuinely appreciate your kind words and am glad you enjoyed reading it. Have a lovely day!

I genuinely don't know where to begin. 😂 This was quite an experience.

I won't defend the subject; Heaven knows what he did. But you explicitly mentioned that he was seventeen. I myself don't know what love was at seventeen (hell, if I know now; the picture hasn't been painted completely), lol, so easy, girlie. 😂

On a more serious note, I think the piece suffers from an excess of emotional condemnation. Almost every paragraph introduces another elaborate insult or variation of the same accusation, and eventually the language begins to compete with the emotion it's supposed to communicate.

I also find your condemnation of the man's vanity rather ironic, considering how frequently you elevate yourself as his greatest treasure and the greatest love he will ever encounter. That contradiction is perhaps the most interesting aspect of the piece. It introduces an interesting question about your own ego and the nature of your supposed selflessness. (a psychological observation )

Yes, he might have put you through hell, as you've described, but I think there ought to be some cross-examination on your part. This reads almost like a prosecutorial monologue. I don't recall seeing you ask why. Was he always like this, and you simply hadn't realised? Was there something that changed? Did your feelings shine so brightly that you couldn't see what was happening? These are questions worth exploring. They wouldn't necessarily excuse his behaviour ,Even they would ground your claims and would give the piece more depth and, in my opinion, greater emotional maturity.

The religious and mythological references are interesting, but their accumulation feels more ornamental than purposeful. Sometimes restraint communicates contempt much more effectively than an entire catalogue of moral deficiencies. You don't have to throw the seven deadly sins, Aphrodite, Ares and half the dictionary at someone to convince us you dislike them. 😂
(it left me wondering what this dude did 😭)

There's certainly personality here, and I wouldn't say the piece lacks conviction. If anything, it has more conviction than it knows what to do with. I'd be interested in seeing what happens when you trust the emotion enough to say less.

I just hope you heal. I hope you learn to forgive, to let go, and perhaps, most importantly, to cross-examine yourself as well.

Overall, though, you've got an authentic voice. Your emotions were so powerful that I could feel them through the writing. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I can imagine this was written in a moment of immense sadness and grief, perhaps as an attempt to reconcile with what happened, make sense of the past, and construct a narrative that would allow your heart to find some satisfaction in the aftermath.

I hope, with time, you find that peace beyond the pages.

Have a nice day .

Thank you so much for this review, truly. Reading this made me smile. Not only is your judgement awfully perceptive, but the manner in which you expressed your opinions was genuinely quite humorous.

This is my first ever piece of recreational prose, one which I initially had no intention of publishing, let alone refining. I wrote it during a period of considerable grief and anger; therefore, the depiction of a man’s bestiality and my own supposed perfection was undoubtedly dramatic, exaggerated and, at times, logically inconsistent.

I particularly enjoyed your observation regarding the irony of condemning his vanity whilst simultaneously elevating myself to the position of his greatest treasure. In retrospect, I find that contradiction rather interesting. Perhaps there is an element of wounded pride concealed beneath the condemnation, an attempt to restore a sense of self-worth through the very language with which I sought to diminish him. I hadn’t considered that interpretation before, but I think it warrants some introspection.

Your suggestion of cross-examination is equally compelling. I suppose I was so preoccupied with articulating the injustice of my own experience that I neglected the complexities surrounding it. The piece was never particularly concerned with understanding the circumstances, but rather with expressing the emotional aftermath. Nevertheless, I agree that a more nuanced exploration of those circumstances could lend the writing considerably greater depth.

I also appreciate your comments regarding the mythological and religious references. I have a particular fondness for classical literature and symbolism, and I think I occasionally become rather too enthusiastic in incorporating them. 😂 Your point about restraint is something I’ll certainly take into consideration.

Above all, thank you for taking the time to engage with my writing so thoughtfully. I would much rather receive a review that challenges my perspective than one that merely applauds my vocabulary. I’m still discovering my voice as a writer, and criticism of this nature is invaluable to that process.

And, for the record, I promise the poor seventeen-year-old has not been subjected to the full extent of the seven deadly sins in real life. 😂

Thank you again. I genuinely enjoyed reading your perspective.
