i often wonder
what it means to be at peace—
is it rest,
or just the breath we steal
between collapses
a word that moves easily
in other mouths,
but splinters on my tongue
i ask the same of freedom—
is it release,
or the strength to lift your own chains
and call them chosen
do we ever arrive,
or do we rehearse arrival
so the distance feels deserved
and then there is life—
womb of every wound,
stage-lit and watching
as we master the art
of invisible bleeding
me? i am no nihilist
i think the truth is loud—
loud enough to fracture us,
which is why we soften it
into noise,
into motion,
into anything but stillness
purpose—
the lightest lie we agree to carry
tell me,
what are you willing to die for?
because living,
truly living,
demands a devotion
that threatens to take everything
and asks you to nod
i love this game called life—
not because it is fair,
but because it refuses spectators
so i remain,
not bravely,
not wisely,
but presently
as long as i am permitted breath
i will stay
long enough
to interrogate my own existence
i want to go to the mountains—
where silence is not given,
but earned through distance
to sit above the noise
and feel the world shrink
without needing its approval
i will descend into the valley,
lay myself open,
and let the wind unmake me—
peel back the quiet damage
i have mistaken for identity
i want time—
not to live,
but to decide
if living deserves me
and until then,
i will hope—
not because hope is kind,
or honest,
or even real
but because belief,
even fabricated,
is sometimes the final thread
between a soul
and its surrender.

Amazing work Alex! You see, most of us wants to know what our true purpose lies in this life and whether we're on the right path. Life goes with the flow of our decisions and decisions leads us to where we either chose or chose not to be completely. The real freedom we have is free will but what will become of free will if we chose to not live it truly?
I think it's sometimes hard to live in the moment with our mind but we should at least try out of our comfort zone, no?
Thank you, Elena. I agree that stepping outside our comfort zones is necessary, I agree that life goes with the flows of our decisions , but I might have to disagree with your thoughts on free will. I don't think such a thing truly exists; perhaps it's one of the more comforting illusions we've come to accept. Every decision we make, every action we take, is influenced by something, whether an external circumstance or an internal force. Even what we consider our choices may simply be the consequence of things beyond our control.
But then again, perhaps that's a conversation for another day. ( I have a thing or two written about freewills too) a deconstructive one.
Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts. I genuinely appreciate it.
