In My Poetry

PreviousNext

i am a man,
‎
‎and in the tradition of many,
‎I am the villain.
‎In the logic of religion,
‎I am the first,
‎the echo of a god,
‎the center that pulls all.
‎From thy ribs came many.
‎
‎i am a man,
‎
‎An emissary of rift,
‎a divider of worlds.
‎I am a solution to some,
‎a problem to many.
‎I give
‎and I take—
‎a spark of hope,
‎a shadow in its wake.
‎
‎i am a man,
‎
‎Deemed the strongest.
‎I cannot vent,
‎cannot complain;
‎weakness is a scarlet letter.
‎So I swallow my words at crowded tables,
‎fold my doubts into silence,
‎call it composure.
‎
‎i am named egoic—
‎one who looks from above,
‎never from beneath.
‎
‎And it makes me wonder—
‎
‎What am I?
‎
‎i am a living contradiction,
‎void of satisfaction,
‎born a god in story,
‎raised a man in expectation,
‎carrying both the crown
‎and the shadow it casts.
‎

I read this with the same wonder that I read Norse mythology with. I was going to elaborate on some of my favorite lines, but I can't choose between them. You take something so basic--"Man"-- and paint layers upon layers of story and possibility. It's beautiful.

I'm glad it got you like that, I'll try and post more of my work once I gather confidence. Thanks 🫶

That is a beautiful poem
Written by you
I believe that you were born
To be a poet
Don't forget
You are never alone
Because God is watching you
Also you should be thankful
For the things you have
A roof over your head
A bed to sleep
Clean water to drink
Some nice clothes to wear

Thank you for the kind words, those basics things are what keeps me going.

And I know that am not alone.

If I seem to wander, if I seem to stray, remember that true stories seldom take the straightest way.
