Introduction
I never thought that my own parents would secretly be humans. My parents, the demonic clown and psycho doll…teenage humans.
I don’t hate them. At least, I don’t think I do. But they lied to me. They pretended to be creatures that they aren’t.
And they still kill and scare people. They still want me to do the same.
I will always like doing it, but now it just feels…different.
Chapter One
Josh came to my house yesterday because he was worried, which is funny, because nobody needs to check on me! Even Valencia knows better than to do that!
He was kicked out by Dad, of course, from a floorboard that could also launch living and not living creatures into the air if the right buttons were pushed. Now I’m in Dad’s carnival, looking for human children to slip inside. Sometimes it happens. But usually he has to get them himself.
“ArE tHErE cHIldRen iN mY cArnIVal?“ His voice echoes the question.
Nope, only the ones who are already dead.
Chapter Two
I hear the propeller on Dad’s hat getting closer and already know what he’s going to ask before he does:
“AnD wHeRe aRE tHE tAstY mOrsEls?”
“There are no tasty morsels, Dad. Just the children you already killed. Can I go inside now?”
Dad frowns at me, which contorts his face in a way that I have never seen before and hope to never see again.
“fIne. sAy hI tO yOuR fRiEnD tOo.”
I don’t need him telling me to say hi to Valencia, I’m always nice to her. But I don’t even know if I’m going to see her today. I haven’t seen anybody in a while.
“I haven’t seen Valencia or anybody else. Hopefully they didn’t get kidnapped by the humans.”
I’m not sure why I said that. I don’t like to talk about the humans and their kidnappings. But it’s been awfully quiet lately, which isn’t usual for where we live.
“A kIDnApPiNG? I AM SUPPOSED TO DO THE KIDNAPPING! I KIDNAP THEIR CHILDREN AND THEN EAT THEM! NOBODY, NOT A SINGLE DARNED SOUL, STEALS MY THUNDER, YA HEAR? IF THERE IS ONE MORE HUMAN WHO WANTS TO TEST ME, I SWEAR TO THE DEV-“
“Stop! This isn’t about kidnapping humans, I just…don’t you think it’s weird? I haven’t seen anybody but Josh lately and you kicked him out.”
Dad cocks his head, the sharp-toothed smile still present on his face.
Chapter Three
“nOT aS wEiRd aS I wOuLd liKe iT tO bE!” Dad cackles.
That’s not what I meant at all, but he spins away on one booted foot and I don’t want to chase him. He and Mom haven’t even talked about them being humans longer than what they’ve already told me. Everything feels oddly quiet and it’s not right.
I’ll go tell Valencia about this.
Chapter Four
I’ve teleported myself to the front of Valencia’s house, a gray and decaying structure that has water leaking out of the broken walls. I did it a few seconds ago, after Dad left.
Valencia mostly hides in the house, so I’m going to cartwheel myself right in and-
“Lurking in the murky waters
I watch and wait”
Chapter Five
Yep, that’s her singing right now. I look behind the house and see her sitting on the dirt, her blue tail resting in the muddy pond.
She has a nice singing voice, but I need to talk to her right now, so I’m just going to have to:
“Valencia! HEY! Remember me?!”
Chapter Six
Valencia looks up, startled, but motions for me to come over. I do exactly that, except I do more:
I twirl and leap towards her, until I’m standing right next to her.
“Now, why haven’t you come over to visit me? Am I just not funny enough?”
Chapter Seven
“I thought you didn’t want anybody to come over. Ralph and Eddie said that you didn’t want to talk to them.” Valencia says.
What-how-that’s just hilarious! She knows how I feel about them!
“You’re my best friend! So why haven’t you been acting like it? Why-“
“What? I don’t have to keep seeing you to be your friend! And if you must know, I’ve been visiting Valerie.”
She jumps into the pond, the water splashing on my face and some of it slipping off my round, red nose. But has she really been seeing…the human?!
Chapter Eight
“What do you mean?! You’ve been going into the human world?! Valencia, I told-“
“Why do you care?!” She shouts.
I’m running around the pond, trying to talk to her, but she keeps swimming away. I can’t believe that she’s been seeing the human without telling me. She’s supposed to be my friend, not the human’s! What good would it do to go up there?
A pink light begins to burst in the front of the pond, little sparkles coming off of it like confetti.
Chapter Nine
The pink light disappears after a few seconds and is replaced by Valerie and a human woman.
“There are monsters in our world and we need your help to get them back here.” Valerie blurts out.
So is that why nobody really came over to my house?
Chapter Ten
Valencia starts swimming towards Valerie, but I’m not going to just come up to her.
“How did you get here? Who is that woman? And why are the monsters there? Did you send them-“
“I didn’t! They just came and they’re in danger!”
Chapter Eleven
“Why do you care that she’s human? She isn’t the only one who needs our help.” Valencia says.
She has gotten out of the water and now has legs, standing next to Valerie and the woman.
I don’t like the idea of being around humans, but like many times before, Valencia is right.
I must join them.
Chapter Twelve
I stand with Valencia, Valerie and the woman as pink smoke surrounds us, pulling swirling around us like the glitter in Eirisse’s home, until we’re standing in front of a big pink mansion with white trim.
“This is Andrea’s house. That’s where she’s keeping all of your friends.” The woman says.
Calling them my “friends” is a bit of a stretch, but I see what she means.
Chapter Thirteen
I don’t know who Andrea is or why she’s keeping the others in her extremely pink house, but I’m not going to leave them trapped in the human world.
I jump up off the ground as if it’s a trampoline, the colors of the sky and the ground mixing together to look like liquid rainbow…that’s not supposed to happen, is it?
Chapter Fourteen
I fall into a room with wires and TVS. The window was already smashed open before I came in and Eirisse and Beatrice are running away.
I almost shout out for them to hear me, but I hear a human downstairs, getting closer.
I run with them.
Chapter Fifteen
The walls of the house and the floor look like they’re melting into each other, like actually melting. Valerie said that all of the monsters were here, so we still need to find the boys.
This time the rainbow that I saw earlier is surrounding us and…we’re not in the house anymore. I don’t know how it happened, but it did.
Everything around us looks fake.
Chapter Sixteen
“You’ve kept the humans in your world, now I’m going to keep you in mine.” A woman’s voice says.
I can’t see her, it’s disembodied, echoing like she’s a ghost. I’ve been in my Dad’s dream carnival before and there are usually tears in them to get out of. They’re in places that no human would think to look, so maybe they’re in here.
Eirisse turns to face the sky, “We don’t have any humans!”
Chapter Seventeen
“Really? Then what about my son? Your demonic clown teacher? You won’t let him come back home!”
I frown, which feels strange for my usually elastic, smiling face.
Mr. Smells-like-the-dead…human?
Chapter Eighteen
“We didn’t trap him there, he was already locked in by the magic! Just let us go!” Beatrice yells.
So what, Beatrice knew? He seemed so monstrous…just like us…
Valerie and the woman have wires spreading all around their bodies, straight from the ground.
Chapter Nineteen
It’d be okay if I just left them there to be choked by the strange wires. All they ever did was keep the monsters trapped in their world…
But they didn’t do it. The woman did. They just wanted us to help them get back home.
And I want them back too.
Chapter Twenty
So Valencia and I both use our magic to break away the cartoons. Valerie and her Aunt-that was who she was-both run out with us, with the other monsters.
We got out now, but I don’t want to see Andrea again.
Or be in her cartoon world again.

i readed this story and i thinked it is very much interesting but also a little bit confusing for me because the parents are demonic clown and psycho doll but then they are secretly teenage humans which make no sense how they can be both thing at the same time? i like the scare part and the carnival with the dead childrens and the dad who have a propeller hat that make a loud sound when he coming closer but the english in the dialogues is writing with big and small letters together like ArE tHErE cHIldRen which hurted my eyes to read it fastly. also the story stop very sudden when the dad is screaming about he want to kidnap the childrens and i wanting to know what happen next with the friend valencia who might be taked by the bad humans so it is a good spooky story but need more explanations for the family secret.
