HAM
do you know where the safest place lies?
in the trees?
where they shift with worry?
wide eyes seizing toward the center ground?
the safest place lies within the rotten trunk of the father
if you can make it
past the poison leaves that brush against you in passing
whispers their usual haunts
or past the curling clawed branches
grabbing at your heart
slashing through your clothes
holding tight as you struggle against his grasp till you go limp
or past his scratchy bark
scraping away at your porcelain skin
only if you get past his charcoal heart
you are the safest inside
from the rotten father
lying deep
where he can no longer tear you down
you are safest inside the thing you fear
safe inside the belly of the beast
— forest of fathers

greetings! first off, there's something we've been wondering about for a long time. this might be a dumb question, but what does the HAM on top of your poems mean? we read some works of yours and we see it again and again.

do you know where the safest place lies?

we love this opening line. it implies that there is a need for safety here, because why else would one be wondering about what the safest place is? it also forces the reader to think, think about your question.

where they shift with worry?

the trees, we assume, shifting with worry? interesting. are they worrying about mc, or about something else? we don't understand this line much, but it does make us wonder and think. you really do speak to the imagination.

wide eyes seizing toward the center ground?

is this still about the trees? we're imagining birch trees now.. eyes directed at the center ground, we think this means. what do they see there? mc?

the safest place lies within the rotten trunk of the father

so the father is a tree too, and he is rotten. rotten as in decayed, rotten as in bad bad man, or both?
reading more lines he could be both. still, he is the safest place, you say.

if you can make it

there is danger there. funny, that the mc has to face danger in order to get away from danger.

past the poison leaves that brush against you in passing
whispers their usual haunts

poison leaves whispers.. shouldn't that be whispering? we looked it up and those poison leaves touching mc are truly a threat, as poison touching you is dangerous. usual haunts. so the haunting is usual, nothing new.

one thing we want to say to you already is that you're really good with showing your story!

or past the curling clawed branches
grabbing at your heart
slashing through your clothes
holding tight as you struggle against his grasp till you go limp

curling clawed! alliteration! we like that! grabbing at mc's heart.. a vivid image. slashing.. through.. your clothes? holding tight as you struggle against his grasp till you go limp? sounds like there's abuse going on here, and the slashing through your clothes also makes us kinda think of sa..

or past his scratchy bark
scraping away at your porcelain skin

porcelain skin! and porcelain can break, porcelain is fragile. interesting.

only if you get past his charcoal heart
you are the safest inside
from the rotten father

charcoal is black. charcoal can burn. the next lines are a bit.. awkward. we suggest, though you may ignore us, to turn it into
'are you the safest inside
of the rotten father' since from doesn't really fit here, we think, and you are sounds a bit.. awkward to us. here, rotten sounds more like bad than decayed.

lying deep
where he can no longer tear you down
you are safest inside the thing you fear
safe inside the belly of the beast

so mc fears, sees the father as a beast.. we don't really know what to say anymore, so we'll finish here.
overall, you're really good at speaking to the imagination!

WOW! I am speechless, your concept is so stunning and i really really enjoyed your poem, I also love writing poetry about nature and once again your concept is like chefs kiss!!
I thought as I was reading it, idk why but it reminded me of Ginny and Georgia? You know that show on Netflix? There was some deep themes, but they stood out in a way thats like, "look at me" it was powerful yet quiet, i loved it.
you should review my poems :)
