So they say that the holiday is here

That the spooks have come, as they do every year

So they say that Laughing Jack has come back

The right ol’ clown, with his shaggy black hair and lack of a frown

So they say to be careful

That on All Hallows’ Eve, he’s especially ca-ray-zee

But why not play?

Why not stay?

After all, it’s All Hallows’ Eve!

What’s wrong with a clown that’s a little ca-ray-zee?

Good evening Creeper, my name is Jade and I am super excited to review your poem today!

That the spooks have come, as they do every year

To begin, I adore the rhyme scheme in this work, and by the second line, you already made it clear what holiday we are celebrating, and we wonder what spooks are to come.

So they say to be careful

While your poem is short, I like the tension this line adds. It does a great job of having us wonder why we need to be scared of Laughing Jack. I like how you do two short questions. It gives the reader a pause, I thought 'yeah, why not play? What could happen?'

After all, it’s All Hallows’ Eve!

I like this line. I also like the ambiguity of the ending. We are left to wonder how Laughing Jack is crazy, and what's so bad about indulging in some Halloween fun? After all, 'tis the season.

I would recommend adding in more questions, maybe delving more into the spooky aspect. The reader is left wondering why? as you never describe why he is crazy or how he can be a spooky danger. The overall tone is a mix of looming danger, along with a general wondering about how he is a threat. I think describing him more, mentioning something menancing, or asking spooky questions about him before this line:
The right ol’ clown, with his shaggy black hair and lack of a frown

I believe that would help. Readers will still be left wondering how crazy and dangerous he is, but with more of a grasp on the looming danger and overall tone you may want to imply!

Overall, I loved your poem. It felt like an old nursery rhyme, and the foreboding tone was so cool for this spooky season.

I can't wait to read more of your works!

Jade

yayyy I’m glad you liked it!

Hey creeper!

This is such a fun song/poem about LJ. It really encapsulates the clown side in a fun, bouncy way but keeps creepiness underneath!

So they say that the holiday is here

That the spooks have come, as they do every year

Great opening; I love the rhyming here.

So they say that Laughing Jack has come back

The right ol’ clown, with his shaggy black hair and lack of a frown

I love the rhyming of frown, but i think if you had it so the first line ended with clown, so you can rhyme it with frown at the end of the second line. I think keeping up the rhyming scheme would make it even more playful and sing-song, which works well with the dark nature of LJ!

So they say to be careful

That on All Hallows Eve’, he’s especially ca-ray-zee

should be Hallows' Eve, with the apostrophe after Hallows :)

I love the way you write 'ca-ray-zee' it really fits his character

But why not play?

Why not stay?

this was my favourite bit! I think you could do some more quick, short lines between the longer ones!

After all, it’s All Hallowed Eve!

What’s wrong with a clown that’s a little ca-ray-zee?

i think you mean Hallows' instead of hallowed! But i love the ending here.

Such a cool way to write about LJ!

Thank you! I do love LJ a lot so I guess that was translated here haha.
