Sorrows of the Lost Sheep

Slowly I begin to think
Without anyone trying to break me
They don’t realize what’s happening
I’m slowly beginning to feel
Everything that seems so very dear
Yet now I feel nothing
Just like a twig that’s snapped
Because life destroys piece by piece
Until I’m just a little stick
Broken in half

They smile and laugh
They chuckle and giggle
Every single noise is another crack in the heart
But then I wonder if it had already begun to start
And my mind won’t stop
Screaming on my behalf
I’m broken, no one can fix that
Even if they tear this whole world down to try
I watch them stumble along their path
Wishing that it were me rather than them

Day by day I trudge through this journey
Wondering when I’ll be free
And there You are
Light shining like gold in the sky
Watching over me
Just like Your lost sheep
You take away my burdans
You kiss my tears
Telling me that You’re here
And it’s the very first time I feel seen

And once again, when I’m in trouble
I plead for help
But no one comes to save the day
Acting like I’m nothing but a bug
That’s fallen in the mud
They walk past
Ignoring my cries
And my heart drops
My knees began to buckle
And there’s nothing here for me

But then there You are
Cradling me in Your arms
Stroking my hair softly,
Giving me Your light
You take my dirt away
Giving me warmth instead
And I know that You’re here
That You’ll never leave me
Because I’m Your sheep
And that’ll always be

So I thank You.
Because I’ve never felt so seen
So heard
So loved
And now I know
That you’re all I have left
But that’s fine by me
Because I’ll finally be free

That awkward moment when you jump out a window because your friend jumped out a window, then you remember that your other friend can fly.
