In My Poetry

The dim sunlight spread across my bed like golden glitter, its warmth seeping through the fluffy duvet. I glanced beside me, and my eyes fell on him—the man who felt like a dream, who always felt like home, and who constantly ran across my mind.

He was my dearest love, the beautiful trouble my heart would recognize even with its eyes closed.

Suddenly, my heart started to race. My gaze traced his striking features under the golden light. His long, dark lashes made my mind wander, and his silken, dark hair fell loosely over his forehead and across the pillow. His nose caught the light perfectly, and slowly, my eyes drifted to his full lips, parted slightly as he breathed. A small drop of black ink rested beautifully just beneath his bottom lip, standing out against his pale skin. His beauty made me freeze.

In an instant, his eyes fluttered open. I froze, blinking slowly, unsure of what to do. His gaze spoke a language that only my heart could understand.

He sat up slowly, the duvet slipping down to his lap. His chest was bare, revealing the strong, lean muscles of his shoulders. My eyes widened, and a sudden warmth rushed to my cheeks. Looking closer, I could see my own blushing reflection mirrored in his dark eyes.

He smiled, leaned closer, and whispered, "Why are you blushing, baby?"

My throat went dry at the sound of the word. Moving back slightly, I stammered, "What's wrong with you? And why the hell are you sleeping beside m—?"

Before I could finish, he leaned forward and pressed his soft lips against my forehead, lingering there. My hands gripped the bedsheet so tightly that my knuckles turned white. I didn't know how to push him away—or if I even wanted to.

As he pulled back, he cupped my cheeks. His thumb gently grazed my cheekbone, and I could feel the heat radiating from his skin. "I'm your husband, honey," he said, his voice warm and steady. "How can you forget?", I just looked into his eyes. The logic of my awake mind told me this was impossible, but looking at him, everything felt more familiar than anything else in the world. The panic in my chest gave way to a strange, overwhelming comfort. He moved closer, his hand gripping my waist. I could feel the warmth of his touch even through the smooth fabric of my robe.

"Do you remember me now?" he asked.

Without knowing why, I nodded slowly and smiled.

He sighed softly. "So now, I need my morning rewards darling."

Before I could process his words, he leaned in until his face was only inches from mine. His gaze locked onto my lips, then melted back into my eyes, completely dissolving my resistance. His fingers tangled in my curls as he whispered against my ear, "You look gorgeous this morning."

My stomach fluttered.

"Can I?" he murmured, his eyes lingering on my lips.

My mind was entirely confused, but my heart wasn't. I slowly smiled and wrapped my arms around his neck.

He smiled against my skin. "Good girl. You're mine now."

As he tilted his head and closed the final distance between us, I shut my eyes.

Out of nowhere, a harsh alarm ringing shattered the silence.

I snapped my eyes open, staring at my plain white ceiling instead of my lovely husband. I sat up quickly and checked the clock. 8:00 a.m. sharp.

It had all been a foolish dream.

Yet, even now, I could still feel his warmth lingering against my skin. I wondered if he was out there somewhere, dreaming about me too. At least I had got to hold him in my sleep.

It felt like a poem... and next time, I definitely won't set an alarm.

Hello there, human! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!

Shalt we commence with the mortifying S’more?

Top Graham Cracker - The main character wakes up to a beautiful man next to her who says that he’s her husband. She doesn’t quite remember but her heart does. She kisses him and then…she wakes up. It was all a dream.

Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - I have no recommendations to make as of right now, but if you would like to edit this, you may.

Chocolate Bar - I like the way you describe the husband as having an ethereal beauty, especially when you are describing his eyelashes! He sounds gorgeous. And he does seem to love the protagonist from he talks to her and kisses her, it’s so sweet. :> The ending was nice too, how she decides to not set an alarm next time lol.

Closing Graham Cracker - Overall, a rather magical story! I have enjoyed reading this and I will be certain to read some of your other stories and poems. It sucks that it was all a dream, but that’s better than nothing! And now…

I wish you a dazzling day/night! ^v^

Awww.

This was so cute.

I really didn't think that this was a dream. I was hoping that it was real. 😭

I didn't see anything wrong with the story. It flowed nicely, and there wasn't anything confusing.

He was my dearest love, the beautiful trouble my heart would recognize even with its eyes closed.

I loved this part; because it's so very real. It's a perfect way to describe someone you truly love even when you can't see them you know that they're there.

He sounds wonderful. I loved the description of him, rather than using plain words, you really detailed that way we all can picture him. (I wonder; is this a description of the guy for you....?)

In an instant, his eyes fluttered open. I froze, blinking slowly, unsure of what to do. His gaze spoke a language that only my heart could understand.

This was really cute. I loved how it said
His gaze spoke a language that only my heart could understand.
because now I want to know what sort of gaze it was.

"Do you remember me now?" he asked.

I liked how soft and gentle he sounds, not forcing her to remember but just a question.

He smiled against my skin. "Good girl. You're mine now."

I think that this was just a part that felt odd to me. Though I'm not really sure.

Out of nowhere, a harsh alarm ringing shattered the silence.

And bam!

I snapped my eyes open, staring at my plain white ceiling instead of my lovely husband. I sat up quickly and checked the clock. 8:00 a.m. sharp.

It had all been a foolish dream.

A horrid! Just when you were thinking that this was real. . . it was just a dream. Though I think it makes it better because of that.

It felt like a poem... and next time, I definitely won't set an alarm.

I liked the ending.

Overall, this was a nice short story, I enjoyed this.
